This is Thierry Henry at his very best. At a time where Premier League was considered the best league in the world, Henry is arguably their best player. Henry is not your typical CF. He started his career as a left winger, and then develop his game to become a hybrid of CF/WF/SS. This is quite a revolutionary thing in a time where traditional CF is still considered the main source of goal scoring. Henry is a very supportive player, playing in a fluid Arsenal system. This is why you wouldn't see him standing in a fixed position like a regular CF does. He'll always moving and involved in the game. He plays all sorts of combinations, be it one-two, wall pass, or some clever little flick to set his teammates free.
Henry is an elegant and efficient player, and doesn't try a lot of things to be effective in the game. You'll never see him make ten runs in a row or releasing dozens of shot in a game. He'll utilize moments rather than trying as much as he can to score. In fact he can be a bit of a gamble for defenses, that's why he's so dangerous. If you look at him in first glance, he looks like a player that's going to cut inside and shoot all the time. But Henry just couldn't be further from that. He plays for the team rather than playing for himself, and tends to give maximum support for the team. He's a bit reserved rather than opportunistic in his approach to the game. Yet when the opportunities come he has so many dangerous qualities that could be use to hurt the opponent. He's very fast, has great dribbling, technique, composure, and incredible shot placement. He's also adept at taking accurate free kicks. His playstyle only makes me wonder: How many more goals he would score in his career had he choose to be a bit more selfish? Even with his playstyle he's capable of regularly score 25+ goals every season.
If Henry plays in todays game he would possibly be given an inverted LWF role that's similar to Sadio Mane or Raheem Sterling. He has in fact played in similar position during Guardiola's first season at Barcelona and perform really well there. Again his unselfishness and willingness to always learn and help the team comes in handy at Barcelona, thus made him a crucial part of that successful season. Henry is without a doubt, a true legend of the game.
